WolfPrint Service Standards
I. Workstations Printing via the WolfPrint System
Workstations Printing via
the WolfPrint system must be running one of the four supported computing environments:
a)
WolfPrep (Windows/Novell)
b) Realm Linux
c) Unity Macintosh with Kerberized Printing
d) Solaris Realm Kit
II. Printer Naming Convention
Printers that are part of the WolfPrint
system must be named according to the following pattern:
Official NCSU Building Abbreviation-Room Number-Queue Number
The table below shows examples of the formulas for naming black and white,
color, and large-format printers.

III. WolfPrint Printer Network Configuration
Any WolfPrint printer must adopt the following network configuration:
a) Use the .wc.ncsu.edu domain name
b) Use the WolfPrint TFTP Configuration File
• Use Wolfcopy Printer DHCP Template or WCPRINTER BOOTP Template
• Use ITD's WolfPrint Access Control Lists (ACLs)
c) ITD will register the printer in QIP
d) WolfCopy will be responsible for purchasing the printer's network cable. If the cable fails, WolfCopy will replace the cable.
e) The department into whose lab a WolfCopy printer will be installed will also be responsible efor any fees associated with network port activation for the printer.
IV. Price Per Page
a) Black & White
The price per page of any WolfPrint black and white printer
shall be $0.06 per page.
b) Color
The price per page of any WolfPrint color printer shall be $0.25 per page.
c) Large Format
The price of any large format job sent to a WolfPrint
plotter shall be $1.60 per square foot.
d) D.H.Hill Library
Some printers in DH Hill Library conform to a different pricing scheme. Printing to printers dhl-1102-1, dhl-1102-2, dhl-1200g-1, dhl-2144-1, dhl-3413-1, dhl-4413-1, dhl-5413-1, dhl-6402-1, dhl-8402-1 costs $0.10 per page.
V. Web-Based Print-A-File Tool
The web-based Print-A-File tool is available to clients who wish to send print
jobs to WolfPrint printers from locations other than public computing labs.
The WolfPrint Print-A-File tool will only accept print jobs in the following
formats:
a) PostScript
b) PDF
c) .txt
VI. Printers to be Considered for Use with the WolfPrint System
Any printer to be evaluated for use with the WolfPrint System must conform
to the following standards:
a) Configurable for the network via DHCP or BOOTP
b) Printer's status retrievable by SNMP
c) Printer supports bi-directional printing via Port 9100 (the PDL datastreaming
port)
d) Printer supports PostScript
e) Printer supports Printer Job Language (PJL)
f) Printer's pagecount retrievable with PJL commands
g) Printer can retrieve a TFTP configuration file to generate IP Access Control
Lists (ACLs)
h) Printer fully supports NDPS
i) Bi-directional accounting information is available to the NDPS gateway, in
the same field as HPGATE
j) Printer's NDPS gateway has a console screen with useful debugging information
VII. List of Supported Printers
The following models are currently supported WolfPrint printers:
